Copper Silver Ionizing System

In addition, the system has been shown to be effective in reducing the organism responsible for cholera.

Copper Silver Ionizing System
Copper/silver ionization as the basis for its purification of water. To get a better idea of this, let’s first look into the definition of an “ion” and “ionization”. An “ion” is an atom or radical (group of atoms) which carries an electrical charge as the result of having lost or gained electrons. The atom’s charge is negative if it has an extra electron and positive if it is short an electron. A positively charged ion is called a “cation”, while a negatively charged ion is called an “anion”. An ion often has entirely different properties than the element (atom) from which it was Formed. “Ionization” is the process in which a chemical combination breaks up into simpler electrically charged components (individual atoms or groups of atoms) called ions. The ionization process is related to the gaining or losing of electrons causing the atoms or group of atoms to become electrically charged. Rayned uses copper and silver as the basis for its technology, thus copper/silver ionization is the electronic release of copper and silver ions.
Water is constantly re-circulated and therefore copper and silver need only be added at the rate of which it is removed. However, drinking water requires that copper and silver be increased to an acceptable level as the water passes through the system, unless a re-circulating tank is provided. Therefore, design criteria are based on maximum water flow rate rather than volume.
In general, one amp of current will supply approximately 0.5 ppm copper and a corresponding trace level of silver to 6 gallons per minute or 22 liters per minute of water. The higher level of copper insures a higher level of silver, faster contact time, and a higher margin for error. Users can easily test the water and then adjust the system as needed.
Where a pump is used, the Rayned system can be wired to the pump. Where no pump is used, a flow switch can be used to control the system. Rainwater cisterns will likewise need a trigger mechanism to activate the Rayned system upon addition of fresh water.
The conductivity of drinking water is substantially lower; therefore, multiple pairs of electrodes may be necessary to compensate and allow full current flow. In most cases, the quantity of electrodes must be doubled based on the standard number of electrodes shipped with each model.
At a minimum, a 30-minute residency time is necessary to insure good contact with organisms. In most cases this can be a simple storage tank, or may even be a pressure tank associated with the pump and well.
How the Rayned Copper Silver Ionizer Install:
In all applications, the Rayned system should be installed prior to any filters, holding tanks and other possible areas which might harbor organisms. For rainwater cisterns, it is recommended that the Rayned system be installed in a manner which would allow treatment of the cistern. Each application will be different but the following show the typical schematic diagram.
